This will be Steve’s third year at Camp Director and his eight summer overall at Buckley Day Camp. Steve’s favorite things outside of camp are collecting sneakers, fantasy baseball and spending time with his family! When asked his thoughts about camp Steve says,“I would trade any day in the real world for one hour at camp! Camp is a safe place where you can be yourself and allow the campers to do the same. It’s my happy place!”
David is a former camper who has been a member of the Buckley Day Camp community for over 25 years. David first began working at Buckley in the summer of 2001 and believes that camp is “a place where everyone can come together and no one is left out.” Buckley has always been David’s home and he loves watching his daughter Madison become a member of the Buckley camp family!
When asked to reflect back on her camp experience Wendy says, “I am the person I am today because of camp.” Wendy, along with her children lifeguards, Jake and Jenna have been a part of the Buckley Camp family since 2014. Her favorite camp activity is the annual Camp Olympics!
An early childhood educator for the NYC Department of Education, Garrett the Carrot is excited to be a part of Buckley’s leadership team! Buckley Day Camp has been Garrett’s home since 1999 when he started as a Senior Camper, followed by two summers as a counselor-in-training, five summers as a counselor, and ten summers as a group leader. Garrett is excited to be the Division Head for Intermediate Camp A and empower a new generation of campers to learn something new and build self-confidence!
Jean-Marie will be joining us for her second summer at Buckley. Jean-Marie is no stranger to camp life, she has over 15 years of camp experience. When not at camp you can find Jean-Marie searching for adventure with her husband and two sons. Jean-Marie enjoys theatre productions, baking and sewing. She is looking forward to having another great summer here at Buckley!
Donna is the long time “voice of Buckley” having first joined the camp team in 1996. Donna loves getting to know the campers, staff and their families and believes that camp is, “where strangers become friends and friendships last forever.”
Elyse, shown here with daughter Kaylee, joined the Buckley family in 2012. Elyse helped to found our amazing inclusion program and has been invited to give presentations on the program at several events including several at The American Camping Association conferences. Elyse loves camp because “it is a place where every child can be accepted and celebrated for exactly who they are and grow into the amazing people they are meant to be.”
Jordan joined the Buckley family during the summer of 2016 When not at camp, Jordan is the Dean of Students and AP United States History teacher at Queens Metropolitan High School. He is also a Varsity
Football coach and Junior Varsity Girls Basketball coach for the Roslyn School District. Jordan is a lifelong camp professional having spent over 20 years working at a variety of summer camps! All four of Jordan’s children attend Buckley Day Camp and it has become a second home for the Haber family! To Jordan, “Camp is a place where you learn life skills and build friendships that last a lifetime.”
